January 2023 we bought an X5 from this guy for £6400. Done the usual sales pitch… most reliable car he’s got… etc. made out he got the car valeted before we picked it up but still had sweet wrappers in door pockets. Wouldn’t knock any money off because he might have to do warranty work on it, laughable. He couldn’t take card payments, supposedly because of the fees, so money had to be bank transfers to different account to anything related to Totnes car sales. We should have seen all this as warning signs and walked away. Within a couple weeks of getting car home the problems started. Parts failing, fluids leaking, control arms knocking. We tried contacting him, wouldn’t answer had to keep using different phones to get through and he would say to email then when you do get through he would say he didn’t receive the email. The warranty offered wasn’t worth the paper it was printed on as too limited but just blamed garages because they just wanted to charge too much. After a couple months trying to nail him down we had to give up, life’s too short, it was making us ill and he is well practiced at dodging responsibility. We’ve spent a year trying to get that car put right and when we do get someone to look at it they tell us to take it back to him, should never have been sold, to cut our losses. The level of damage from bodge jobbing meant no one was prepare to get involved. So now at time for new MOT, bearing in mind the last from his mate didn’t even have an advisory, we’re looking for the best price we can get from a scrap yard.I believe he was using this car as his personal car and very much aware of the problems when he sold it to us.

Thank you for your review. A lot of business including Totnes Car Sales and main dealers are moving away from card payments and are preferring to do transactions via balance transfers. The account you paid into for the car was Gosworthy LTD trading as Totnes Car Sales. I am sorry you did not get on with your car. However it cost new about £70000. You brought it when it was old enough to be insure as a classic. In addition to that at the time of purchase it had done over 158000 miles. You send us a letter detailing a repair that needed to be carry out. We responded within your time allowance. To be informed that the repair had already be done.

If anybody the area is looking for a car, we would highly recommend you to go see Howard, whilst we where on holiday early September, our old car had to be scrapped. After a very stressful time we found totnes car sales and saw Howard, who helped us no end and we can not thank him enough, he didn't pressurise us in anyway to sell us the car but we did find one he did us a greatt deal, he even tried to help us get a towbar fitted to the car, he went above and beyond to help us, we really appreciate everything Howard done for us and will never forget his kindness.

Had my eye on one of their vehicles, only to find out they have INCREASED the price by £500. I messaged them to ask why - No reply! To all you customers wondering why used car prices are so high, it has nothing to do with chip shortages or supply/demand, it's very simple, dealers have realised if they all raise their prices, the average price goes up. Totally unethical. Needless to say, I will be shopping elsewhere.

Very happy with the whole experience. Lots of interesting conversations (about everything except cars!) and straight, honest service. Highly recommended (until our car breaks down in a heap next week, of course).

I am very happy with the professional service I've received from Totnes Car Sales, and pleased to leave a positive review. Our new (to us) car developed a few issues soon after purchase but, despite it being at the lower end of their price range, it was all sorted with excellent customer care. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again, and would highly recommend them to friends and family.

Darren and Howard spend a lot of time with us and fixed many of the niggles on the car without question prior to the sale and afterwards. Superb service from both and would highly recommend to anyone seeking a new used car.

Brought a perfect bmw 3 series via tontes car sales. I'm now 9 days outside of my 30 day full warrenty. Gearbox now needs entirely replacing or a grand total off 1500 to be repaired. Despite a professional mechanic informing myself that there is no way for this issue to be have been caused inside the time I have personally owned the vehicle. Despite this I have been told to use the 3 month warrenty total 300 to help towards my unexpected bill off 1500. Strongly believe that once your money has passed hands its not there problem no more. Very disappointed at lack off empathy
